Compassion
Through intense training the samurai becomes quick and strong. He is not as other men. He develops a power that must be used for the good of all. He has compassion. He helps his fellow man at every opportunity. If an opportunity does not arise, he goes out of his way to find one.
In a chapter of one of my favorite martial arts books, "Beyond the Known" the master is traveling on a boat and is attacked by five bandits. He defeats the bandits without seriously harming them and after the other travelers thank him he leads the bandits out of the boat and through a forest. He does not tell anyone else this but he leads them to his dojo where he trains them to become true martial artists who follow the code of bushido. This is a much more compassionate solution than if the master were to simply use his techniques to seriously injure or kill the bandits.
The "He helps his fellow man at every opportunity. If an opportunity does not arise, he goes out of his way to find one." line is one that I find to be a big part of my life. If a person needs help, you help them however you can. Going out of your way to find one does not mean seeking out a bully or criminal to subdue. It could be something as simple as doing volunteer work.
