The Training: All of the students at the dojo arrived early and began warming up and practicing their kata, techniques, etc. Many people also used this valuable time to ask the more skilled Sensei to check their technique, or to give them advice.
After we bowed in and the seminar officially began we split the time between talking about theory, application of kata techniques, Qi Gong exercises, and physically practicing all of the above. The event was completely encompassed by the passion for Karate that all of the people attending possessed. Even during the half hour lunch break we ate healthy (as the Grandmaster says that all serious martial artists should), continued talking about the techniques we've learned, and listening to amazing stories from the karateka there that have had the good fortune to train in Okinawa with the Grandmaster.
Sensei Hayes told us about the welcoming family atmosphere of Okinawan dojos. This first reminded me of the atmosphere Sensei Tammy creates when training myself and the other students in our school. Sensei Revell then proved that we embrace the same welcoming family atmosphere by inviting everyone to his home after the training for a dinner Barbecue.
Sunday's training incorporated a lot of kata practice (especially Naihanchi Shodan), training with stance movement, and Qi Gong exercises which form the basis of many of our warm-up exercises and have been known to help treat various ailments.
As with any good training I have been, and will continue to study what I was taught to gain a deeper understanding of it all.
