- When it gets boring, make it into a game. One game that is simple but effective is “Sensei Says.” This is basically “Simon Says” but using basic Karate techniques.
- Visualize what your techniques are doing when you practice. This will make it easier to use your basics when it comes time for sparring.
- Use your basic techniques with movement. Basics are usually taught standing still so students can get a firm understanding, but this is not how techniques are meant to be used. Practice side-stepping as you block, and shifting your body forward as you punch.
