The short answer is yes. The following is a more longwinded answer.
Shorin Ryu is an empty handed style, but Shorin Ryu practitioners also learn Kobudo (the Okinawan weapons style) when they are ready. Some of the weapons taught are the bo, sai, and kama (pictured above).
When am I ready for Kobudo? In our particular dojo, we don't teach any Kobudo until black belt. When you become a black belt, the first weapon you learn is the bo.
Why wait until black belt? Even as a black belt injuries can happen when dealing with weapons, so waiting until a student is skilled, and mature enough to handle the weapon as safely as possible is of the utmost importance. To be honest, it scares me when I visit a tournament and I see a 5 year old yellow belt swinging around a sword. Another reason for waiting is that it is more useful to know an empty handed style. It is unlikely that you will be carring around bo, sai, or kama in your daily life. One weapon that you as a karate-ka will always have with you is your own body. It is always with you. It is allowed anywhere that you are. So learning how to utilize your own body as a weapon is a more useful skill.
